- Size for how it will be used. A smaller blanket is easy to tuck into a pram or car seat, while a larger one grows into a floor blanket and then a keepsake throw.
- Colours that last. Soft neutrals and gentle tones suit a keepsake, since they still feel right years later and work for a brother or sister down the line.
A note on safety
Open crochet is beautiful, but loose weave and long threads aren't meant for an unsupervised crib. Use a handmade blanket for cuddles, prams, photos and floor time, and follow current safe-sleep guidance for anything overnight.
